Diver Medic Technician (DMT)
IMCA-recognised international training in providing medical aid for diving accidents at remote locations
Description
Diver Medic Technician (DMT) is an IMCA-recognised, international training programme for providing adequate medical aid in the event of diving accidents at remote locations. You train life-saving procedures in critical situations where medical personnel cannot reach the scene quickly. The emphasis is on professional communication with a diving physician at a distance and carrying out their instructions while awaiting the emergency services. In addition to the diving-medical skills of DMB-B2, you learn the basic principles of suturing, setting up an IV, injecting, catheterisation, stopping bleeding, immobilising limbs, treatment in the decompression chamber and preparing the patient for safe transport. BC-opleidingen is recognised by IMCA as a training provider for the DMT.
Two certificates
• Onshore DMT certificate — for candidates who meet the course requirements but do not hold an IMCA-recognised offshore diving certificate (e.g. recreational divers, diving instructors or fire-service divers (Brandweerduikers) who wish to broaden their diving-medical knowledge).
• Offshore DMT certificate — an IMCA-recognised certificate that confers authorisation for international, offshore diving assignments in accordance with IMCA guidelines; for candidates holding an IMCA-recognised offshore diving certificate.
Please note: neither confers authorisation on Dutch territory. Under Dutch law, a BIG registration (registration in the Dutch register of healthcare professionals) is required to independently perform reserved procedures (such as suturing and injecting).
The training
The training is delivered by experienced medical professionals, including SWOD-certified diving physicians, and consists of (online) theoretical modules and intensive practical training in the medical training room and the decompression tank. We use modern training aids and a diving-medical set compliant with DMAC 015.
Investment
• Initial training: approx. 60 hours of online self-study + study from the book, 8 practical days (incl. examination) — €1,810 excl. VAT
• Refresher training: approx. 30 hours of online self-study + study from the book, 4 practical days (incl. examination) — €910 excl. VAT
