About the training

This training practises an ice diving operation: assessing the load-bearing capacity of the ice sheet, making an ice hole, applying the tactics of a line-secured operation under ice and locating and rescuing a victim under ice. The exercise is weather-dependent and does not count towards the portfolio check, but is recommended when conditions allow.

Duration
1 practice day (guideline: 2 half-day sessions). The final number of dives and the time schedule follow from the work plan and the dive planning.
Target group
Registered fire brigade divers and dive team leaders who need to keep this exercise up to standard within their two-year registration period. Suitable for SCUBA and OLV configurations; regions that dive with OLV as standard mainly practise with OLV.
Required per 2 years
fire brigade diver 1, dive team leader 1
Location
Open-water dive pit — BC-opleidingen, Enkhuizen (with sufficient ice formation)

What does the law require?

Fire brigade divers and dive team leaders have been registered with the NIPV since 1 October 2024. To keep your registration, you show every two years, with your logbook, that you have practised enough. The industry guideline on ongoing professional competence (2026) determines which exercises these are. At BC-opleidingen every course follows that guideline, and you receive the right code for your logbook.
