Fire Brigade Current Diving Training

Operating safely in moving water

Description

Diving in currents on rivers and in a Delta P zone requires skills that must be trained and practised regularly. It involves different points of attention and additional risks compared to diving in still water; the current diving deployment procedure was developed specifically for this. However, current and Delta P conditions are not always readily available. In the Fire Brigade Current Diving Training, the current at the training location is continuously adjustable. As a dive team you train multiple scenarios. Is the situation at any moment not workable or outside the comfort zone? Then we switch off the current or reduce it to a workable level. This way the divers and the dive team learn to handle the increased risks and to make the right decisions under pressure, under controlled and responsible conditions. The training consists of theory and practical scenarios. At various current speeds, diving operations on the river or in a Delta P zone are staged and explained on the basis of the current diving (Stroomduiken) deployment procedure. Thanks to intensive supervision and coaching, the divers recognise their own limits as well as those of the dive team and learn to act accordingly. Components include, among others: • Approaching a vehicle in the water in moving water (0.5 to 1.0 m/s) • Working parallel and perpendicular to the current • Search patterns in current • Adapting working methods to the current strength • The influence of the tide on the considerations • Deployment of the safety diver Practical information • Duration: 1 day • Number of participants: 4 to 6 • Cost: €885 excl.
